Small Businesses Crunched by the Estate Tax by Alex Voetsch 10/18/2007
When the Estate Tax was first created, it was not intended to shutter small businesses or to close down family farms. Proponents of the tax saw it as a way to prevent the perpetual wealth of rich families, tax free. They saw it as a way, upon death, to redistribute wealth for the greater good of the American people. In theory, this can be looked on by some as a noble endeavor, but, in practice, the Estate Tax can be a destructive force on the back bone of the American economy, the small business.
Examining the Employee Free Choice Act by Alex Voetsch 7/2/2007
The system currently in place to allow employees to form or join labor unions has continuously been a source of an underlying debate between unions and businesses. The Employee Free Choice Act, which passed the House (H.R.800) on March 1st, and is currently under debate in the Senate (S.1041), has raised the stakes for both sides and has thrust this issue into the national spotlight.
